You Don’t Have to Be Fit Before You Start (And You Don’t Have to Be Brave Either)

Why starting is the hardest part… and why I created BodyBlitz Fitness differently.
One of the things I hear most often from women is:
“I want to come… but I need to get fitter first.”“I’m nervous.”“Everyone else will know what they’re doing.”“I’ll come when I’ve lost some weight.”“I don’t know anyone.”
Can I tell you something?
You do not have to be fit before you start.
You do not need new leggings.You do not need confidence.You do not need rhythm.You do not need to know where to stand.You do not need to be “the sporty one”.
You just need to start.
And if I’m honest…
I still get nervous.
After nearly four decades in fitness and over 25 years teaching Pilates and group exercise, I still get those butterflies before classes.
Will people enjoy it?
Will everyone feel included?
Will someone arrive nervous?
That feeling doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do something.
It usually means you care.
Why This Matters So Much To Me
People often assume fitness instructors were always confident.
That wasn’t my experience.
I still remember my very first fitness class.
I hid at the back.
The instructor never spoke to me.
Never looked my way.
Never made me feel included.
It felt like there was a front row club… and then the rest of us.
I remember thinking:
If I ever teach… nobody should feel like that.
That moment shaped everything I do today.
BodyBlitz Fitness was built on the idea that everybody deserves to feel seen.
Not just the loudest.
Not just the fittest.
Not just the people who already know everyone.
Everybody.

Almost everyone feels nervous before they come.
Many people arrive alone.
Many haven’t exercised for years.
Some worry they’ll be the least fit.
Some sit in the car wondering whether to turn around.
And then class finishes and they say:
“I wish I’d done this sooner.”
Especially at our WALKFit™ Silent Disco classes
People imagine they’ll feel self-conscious…
But the opposite happens.
Once those headsets go on, something magical happens.
You become part of your own little bubble.
You stop worrying what you look like.
You stop overthinking.
You start smiling.
You start moving.
And somehow… despite all having our own headphones on…
You still feel connected.
You notice the laughs.
The smiles.
The encouragement.
The little moments.
You can come alone.
You can bring a friend.
Either way, you’ll be welcomed in.
We move together. Laugh together.
And afterwards many stay for our optional chill-and-chat because community matters just as much as movement.

That’s exactly why I created my online classes.
Because life is busy.
Travel.
Work.
Shift patterns.
Childcare.
Confidence.
Distance.
None of these should stop you moving your body.
Our online sessions are LIVE.
Not anonymous.
Not pre-recorded.
We’re together.
You’ll still be greeted. You’ll still be coached. You’ll still feel part of the group.
And because sessions are accessible online, people join me from all over the UK — and sometimes further afield too.
You can train in your kitchen.
Your lounge.
In Your pyjamas if you really want to.
Camera on or camera off.
No judgement.
Just movement that fits your life.

About Emma - BodyBlitz Fitness
Hi, I’m Emma — founder of BodyBlitz Fitness, women’s health & fitness specialist, Pilates instructor and personal trainer based in beautiful North Norfolk.
I’ve worked in the fitness industry for over 37 years and have spent more than 25 years teaching group exercise and Pilates — but more importantly than qualifications or years of experience, I genuinely believe movement should feel welcoming, supportive and something you actually look forward to.
BodyBlitz Fitness was created because I wanted to build the kind of classes I wish I’d experienced when I first started.
Back then, I was the one hiding at the back of the room.
I know what it feels like to feel nervous.To wonder if everyone else belongs more than you do.To worry you’re not fit enough, confident enough or “the type” of person who joins classes.
That’s exactly why my classes are built differently.
