Mental Health Awareness Week: How Exercise Supports Women’s Mental Health, Confidence & Hormonal Wellbeing ( for Women of ALL ages )

This May, as we recognise Mental Health Awareness Week, I wanted to talk openly about something so many women silently struggle with every single day.

Low mood.Anxiety.Overthinking.Lack of confidence.Feeling overwhelmed.Feeling disconnected from yourself.

And for many women — especially when hormones are fluctuating — those feelings can become even more intense.

Whether you’re navigating peri-menopause, menopause, monthly hormonal changes, stress, burnout, motherhood, work pressures or simply the mental load of modern life, it can sometimes feel exhausting just trying to hold everything together

and even post-menopause, many women still experience hormonal highs and lows throughout the month too. Just because periods stop doesn’t mean everything suddenly levels out emotionally or physically.

Women’s bodies naturally move through rhythms and cycles at every age, which is why supporting our mental wellbeing, movement, stress levels and nervous system is so important throughout all stages of life.

So whether you’re dealing with anxiety, low confidence, burnout, peri-menopause symptoms, post menopause mental health challenges, hormonal fluctuations after menopause, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, please know you are not alone.

This is exactly why I’m so passionate about creating supportive spaces for women through exercise, fresh air, community and movement. From gentle exercise for hormonal balance and nervous system support for women, to energising fitness classes, online support and community events — my goal is always to help women feel stronger mentally and physically in a way that feels realistic, supportive and empowering.

The truth is, so many women are struggling behind the scenes.

And I think we need to talk about that more.

Because although I spend my days helping women feel stronger through fitness, movement and community… I struggle too.

There have been times where my anxiety and low mood have felt incredibly heavy. Times where confidence disappeared. Times where simply getting out of the house felt difficult.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about what I do.

Not because I believe exercise “fixes” everything.

But because movement, fresh air, connection and routine have genuinely been some of the biggest saviours in my own mental health journey.

Not punishment.Not pressure.Not chasing perfection.

Just movement that helps you feel human again.

Why Exercise Can Be So Powerful for Women’s Mental Health

Exercise is often spoken about purely in terms of weight loss or body image — but for me, its biggest power has always been mental wellbeing.

Movement can help:

  • reduce anxiety

  • improve mood

  • support hormonal health

  • build confidence

  • regulate stress

  • improve sleep

  • increase energy

  • create routine and structure

  • reconnect us with ourselves

And importantly — it reminds us we are capable.

Some days that might mean a full class.

Other days it might simply mean getting outside for a walk and breathing fresh air.

Both count.

Not Every Woman Needs the Same Type of Support

One thing I’ve become increasingly aware of is that although my speciality is supporting peri and menopausal women, emotional wellbeing challenges affect women of ALL ages.

You do not need to be in midlife to experience:

  • anxiety

  • low confidence

  • hormonal struggles

  • burnout

  • emotional overwhelm

  • stress-related fatigue

I recently had an enquiry from a younger woman who said she initially thought my services were only for menopausal women after reading one of my blog posts.

And honestly, that really made me reflect.

Because while hormonal health is a huge passion of mine, what I truly want is for ALL women to feel welcome, supported and empowered here.

Whether you’re in your 20s, 40s, 50s, 60s ,70s or beyond.

Whether you’re rebuilding confidence after a difficult period, trying to improve your mental wellbeing, navigating hormonal changes or simply looking for a supportive community — there is space for you.

Sometimes Getting Out Feels Impossible — And That’s Okay Too

One of the reasons I offer both face-to-face classes and online fitness support is because mental health is not one-size-fits-all.

Sometimes getting out to a class is exactly what we need:

  • community

  • laughter

  • energy

  • connection

  • accountability

But sometimes, when anxiety or low mood are high, even leaving the house can feel like a mountain.

That’s where online support can be such a lifeline.

Being able to move your body from home, without pressure or overwhelm, can be the first gentle step back towards feeling better, as well of course making training with me easily accessible wherever you might be in the world, or how busy your schedule, if travel is an issue, as well as just sometimes, not wanting to leave the house.

And that step matters.

Movement, Community & Finding Joy Again

This month especially, I really want to encourage women to prioritise themselves without guilt.

That might mean:

  • joining my May Core Challenge

  • coming along to a class

  • trying the Gentle Reset

  • getting outdoors

  • dancing at my Walkfit™ Silent Disco class in Cromer /Mundesley

  • reconnecting with movement in a way that feels enjoyable rather than punishing

Because fitness should not just be about shrinking ourselves.

It should be about supporting ourselves.

Physically. Mentally. Emotionally.

You Are Not Alone

If you’re struggling right now, please know this:

You are not weak. You are not failing. And you are definitely not alone.

Women carry so much.

Sometimes we need support too.

And if movement, fresh air, community and gentle encouragement can help even one woman feel lighter, stronger or more hopeful, then sharing this message matters.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, I hope more women realise that exercise isn’t about being the fittest person in the room.

It’s about feeling a little more like yourself again.

And that can be life changing.

If this blog resonated with you, please know you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Whether you’re looking for supportive fitness classes, online workouts from home, a fresh start with my Gentle Reset, outdoor wellbeing events or simply a community of women who truly understand — I’d love to welcome you.

You can explore my classes, challenges and wellbeing support here on the website or message me directly if you’re unsure where to start.

Sometimes the smallest step towards looking after yourself can become the biggest turning point.

Love,

Emma xx
